[Coating Case] Anti-fog Treatment for Heat-Resistant PVC

A method of "applying a membrane" instead of "creating a membrane"! A case where we were able to achieve results that benefit our customers.

We received an inquiry from a resin processing company in Ibaraki Prefecture, asking, "We would like to make heat-resistant PVC material non-fogging. Could you provide a good coating for this?" At our company, we explained about water-repellent and hydrophilic films based on our accumulated thin film expertise. Water-repellent films have the effect of repelling water and are commonly used in car windshields. In contrast, hydrophilic films have the effect of allowing water to spread. We conducted various simple experiments using acrylic materials to investigate what type of coating would be suitable for the customer. The customer expressed that they would like the coating to remain non-fogging for about six months and requested that the product be processed as a single piece as much as possible, with dimensions of 1000mm x 1000mm. Therefore, durability and size became the key issues in this case. Our equipment can handle metal films up to 1000mm x 1000mm, but for functional films, the limit is about 300mm x 300mm, making it impossible to apply them in this case.
